Nancy Byrtus
Based in Vancouver, Nancy Byrtus is an emerging abstract and landscape painter who works predominantly with oils and acrylics. With a background in the preservation of historic buildings as well as at galleries and museums, Nancy recently honed her focus to complete a Fine Arts programme at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in 2020.
The body of work you see at TOAF are abstractions painted with vivid colours. This series began as a study of mountain peaks and evolved to become a celebration of the tiny geometric forms that are visible in semiprecious stones. Although the paintings play with scale and abstraction, there is a timestamp to them; their colours and patterns are frequently employed in Mid-century design. Through the combination of these influences, Nancy presents a series of images that are unabashedly playful and light hearted.
